Design for color blindness with KColor simulator

The color blind simulator in KColor helps you preview how your palette appears to users with various forms of color vision deficiency. It ensures your designs are accessible and inclusive from the start.

How the simulator works

Click the Color blindness simulator Color blindness simulator button in the top bar to open the simulator. A modal will appear displaying your current color palette side-by-side: the original on the left and the simulated version on the right.

Simulation modes

Use the dropdown at the bottom of the modal to toggle between different types of color blindness. Available simulations include:

  • Protanopia – Complete red-blindness
  • Protanomaly – Red-weak vision
  • Deuteranopia – Complete green-blindness
  • Deuteranomaly – Green-weak vision
  • Tritanopia – Blue-yellow blindness
  • Tritanomaly – Blue-weak vision
  • Achromatopsia – No color perception (grayscale)
  • Achromatomaly – Limited color perception

Apply or cancel

If you’re happy with the simulated palette, click Apply to update your colors accordingly and exit the simulator. If you want to return to your original design, click Cancel to continue editing without making changes.

Why use it
